Day three in the saddle

December 8:

Today I had another ride on Miss Mayfly. It was easy to catch her and Huckleberry out of the big herd. Mayfly stood well for grooming and saddling. She was a bit of a mess when we got to the arena because we had left her buddy Twix behind and he was yelling for this friends the whole time. After a little groundwork to get her focus, we went back into the roundpen to do some under saddle time.

She stood well for mounting up exercises, and again I let her sit a little under saddle, then asked for forward. She did much better going forward this time. By the end of this session, we did walk, halt, walk off again. We worked on turning in either direction. She is much happier turning to the left than the right... which means we have a lot more right turns in our future. I need to work on sacking her out more off of another horse... getting her used to everything flapping around her, but I am a proud owner for the third time getting on her back. Her new sidepull should be in this week, so I can stop riding her in a rope halter! Wahooo!
